先週の金曜日の話なんですが、
実は私、留学中はホストファミリーと生活してるんですよ。
それで、時々そのホストの友達に「夕食を一緒に食べよう」と誘われるわけなんですよ。
それで十中八九私も同席するわけなんですよ。
ホストとは違った英語が聴けてこれ以上ない楽しみなんですね、これが。
それで先週の金曜日に何があったかというと、
その夕食に招待した友達の家に、もう一人その友達の親友が来たんですね。
ケンというキレイな皺を並べている男性で、
何と！日本に大学生時代訪れていたようです！
初対面にも関らず、こう、暖かく握手をしてくれる彼らは、
いつも思うんですが、とても温もりがあります。
それで夕食が終わった時に、ケンが
「そういえば、学生時代に弾いたことがある日本の曲があるんだ。
是非聴いて欲しい。」
と仰ってたので、恐縮ながら私、この耳傾けました。
確かにケンの弾いた曲は日本民謡系の何かを弾いてました。
何の曲かはタイトルを忘れてしまったけど…。
それでも「何か曲名言ってごらん。弾いてみるよ。」と
申すので、色々なラインナップをしいて、頼んでみました。
ビートルズ、
エルヴィス・プレスリー、
ビリー・ジョエル。
生憎、
サラ・ブライトマンは存じなかったようで、
「Time to say good-bye」が聴けなかったのは心残りですが…。
どの曲も彼なりのエッセンスといいますか、アレンジを加えてまして、
少し、原曲とは異なった印象を受けましたが充実してました。
生まれてこのかた、こういったピアノの弾き方をする人に
アメリカに行って始めて出会いました。
本当に楽しかったな。

Constantly, they're invited their friends' dinner
and mostly (8 or 9 of 10) I would follow them.
This time is difference from only my host family and it's fun.
Back to this subject, their friend called one more friend at the dinner. Then he came in.
His name is Ken.
Surprisingly, he used to study in Japan when he was a student.
Even though it's the first time to meet each other,
he shaked my both hand heartfully.
After the dinner, Ken said
"I wanna show you my piano playing. I must remember a Japanese music."
He sat on the chair which is in front of the piano. I stood by him.
It's a really kind of Japanese traditional music.
Unfortunately, I forgot the name of it.
In addition to, he said
"Please say the name of music. If it's coming up, I play it."
So, I followed his kindness.
The Beatles,
Elvis Presley, and
Billy Joel.
Unluckily, he doesn't know
Sara Brightmanso I missed "Time to say good-bye."
All his play, however, they're arranged by his taste.
All music was different from the origins. It's interesting.
I've never seen such a piano man who plays peaceully
and enjoys before.
I had a great great time!
